Something wicked is coming to Universal Orlando Resort.
Universal Epic Universe is expanding its monster-filled world of Dark Universe with an all-new indoor roller coaster, bringing another major attraction to one of Orlando's most immersive theme park experiences.
Officially announced on November 5, 2026, the upcoming ride will introduce an original story inspired by Universal's legendary monsters. Construction is already underway, with the attraction planned to open in the years ahead.
For horror fans, roller coaster enthusiasts, and visitors planning their next Universal Orlando vacation, there's plenty to be excited about.
And for us at Hart & Huntington Tattoo Co. Orlando, located at Universal CityWalk, the announcement brings together two things we know well: unforgettable experiences and a love for bold, dark, creative artwork.
What Is the New Dark Universe Ride at Epic Universe?
Universal Orlando Resort has confirmed that a brand-new indoor roller coaster is coming to Dark Universe at Universal Epic Universe in Orlando, Florida.
The attraction will be built next to Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment and feature an entirely new storyline inspired by the Universal Monsters franchise.
Here's what has officially been confirmed:
Location: Dark Universe at Universal Epic Universe in Orlando, Florida
Ride type: Indoor roller coaster
Theme: An original story inspired by Universal Monsters
Construction: Already underway
Opening date: Not yet announced
Ride name: Still to be revealed
Universal has not announced which monsters will appear, the coaster's speed, or the ride's intensity. Additional details will be released as development continues.
Dark Universe Is Getting Even Bigger
When Epic Universe opened in May 2025, Dark Universe quickly became a standout destination for fans of classic horror, gothic architecture, and Universal's iconic monsters.
Set within the mysterious village of Darkmoor, the land transports visitors into a world of unsettling experiments, supernatural creatures, and larger-than-life monster encounters.
Dark Universe currently features two major attractions:
Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment takes guests inside Frankenstein Manor, where Dr. Victoria Frankenstein's experiments unleash a terrifying collection of legendary monsters.
Curse of the Werewolf delivers a spinning roller coaster experience inspired by the supernatural creatures lurking beyond Darkmoor.
The newly announced indoor coaster will become the land's third ride, adding another dimension to the monster-themed experience.
Which Universal Monsters Could Appear in the New Roller Coaster?
That's one of the biggest unanswered questions.
Universal's legendary monster franchise includes some of horror cinema's most recognizable characters, including Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, the Wolf Man, the Bride of Frankenstein, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Each brings a distinctive visual style, atmosphere, and storytelling history that could inspire an entirely new attraction.
Speculation has already centered on characters such as the Creature from the Black Lagoon and the Bride of Frankenstein, but Universal has not confirmed either character for the upcoming coaster.
One thing is certain: Dark Universe has already established a unique identity built around cinematic horror, detailed environments, and immersive storytelling. An indoor coaster opens up exciting possibilities for what comes next.
When Will the New Dark Universe Roller Coaster Open?
As of November 5, 2026, Universal Orlando Resort has not announced an official opening date or opening year for the new Dark Universe attraction.
The company has confirmed that construction is underway and that the coaster is planned to open in the coming years.
Visitors planning a 2027 Universal Orlando vacation should keep in mind that the new attraction has not been confirmed for that year.

Why Dark Universe Is a Must-Visit for Horror Fans in Orlando
Dark Universe is more than a collection of rides. It's an entire world built around the visual history of horror.
From the imposing architecture of Frankenstein Manor to the shadowy atmosphere of Darkmoor, nearly every detail celebrates the legacy of classic monster movies.
That connection to horror extends far beyond theme parks.
For generations, Universal Monsters have influenced art, fashion, music, pop culture, and tattoo design. Frankenstein-inspired portraits, vampire imagery, werewolves, gothic lettering, and black-and-gray horror tattoos continue to resonate with collectors and artists.
It's the same fascination with unforgettable imagery and personal expression that makes horror-inspired tattoos so timeless.
